   29 examples of the finest Amish quilts from the highly regarded collection of International Quilt Study
   Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Amish quilts are among the most striking and
   famous of all American quilt types.  Renown for their interplay of color and strong geometric patterns,
   their similarities to modern art have been noted ever since the 1971 exhibition at the Whitney
   Museum of American Art in New York, "Abstract Design in American Quilts".

   Understanding Clay:  Demonstrations 
   A series of ceramic demonstrations featuring Smithsonian Craft Show exhibitors as well as faculty

    wheel-throwing, hand-building, tile making, and the use of precious metal clay. 

    Emerging Artists
    A juried exhibition of innovative fine craft objects by students from the Corcoran College of
    Art + Design, who will be on hand to discuss their work.

   Celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM)
    Young performers from The Music Teaching Project, a community-based jazz education program
    developed by musicians from the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, present a “living
    exhibition” of the craft of jazz, playing a variety of music from Latin jazz to straight ahead jazz.
    In collaboration with the National Museum of American History.

           Renwick Gallery, 1661 Pennsylvania Avenue (at 17th Street), NW, Washington, DC 20006
           The Art and Craft of Greene & Greene pays tribute to an incredible body of work created by brother
    architects in turn-of-the-century Southern California.  Long celebrated as one of the most influential
    creative forces of the American Arts & Crafts movements, the Greenes not only designed exquisite
    homes, such as the Gamble House, but every decorative element within them, including furniture,
    stained glass, light fixtures, and metalwork.  This exhibition, organized by the Huntington Museum
    and Library and the Gamble House, includes examples in each medium, and is the first devoted to
    their work to open at a national venue.
    The Art and Craft of Greene & Greene exhibition is on view at the Renwick Gallery from March 13

Make your own 11" round suncatcher with colorful Bullseye fused glass.  Introductory course in fused
glass held at the Artists on the Avenue studio and local craft store.  Course cost: $100, includes all
materials and instruction to make fused glass suncatcher.  Note:  Individuals need to arrange
to pick up their suncatcher at the store the following week, after it has been fired.
